Photography myths To avoid

If you’re a photographer and love this field then I’m pretty sure you heard more photography myths than some actual photography features and tricks.

yeah, I heard so many photography myths on the internet which literally makes me laugh every time because I know the truth.

So today in this article, I’m sharing some of the most popular and trending photography myths which you need to know before you start believing them.

8 Popular Photography Myths To Avoid For Better Photographer

Popular Photography Myths (according to me) are…

  • A great camera makes a great photograph
  • You need to have lots of lenses out with you
  • The camera never lies
  • Only good light creates good photos.
  • Only shoot in manual mode
  • Photography isn’t a skill
  • You can fix everything by editing
  • Post-processing can fix everything. ( & one bonus tip with valid conclusion 😀 )

This list of photography myths really helps you to know what’s real and what’s fake with valid reasons & examples.

so now without talking more about it, let’s get started…

A great camera makes a great photograph

Photography is an art.

and art is always based on skills a person has acquired through his talent and hard work.

If a person with no skills and the best camera captures images there will be no perfection and everything might look done by an amateur in a naive way.

Similarly, someone with a bad camera and good skills can still manage to achieve perfection in their work as they have the knowledge and ability to do that.

If you don’t have a big budget you can still start your photography career, all it takes is effort.

A good camera matters not more than your skills.

you can still do wonders without a perfect camera. Yes, you read that correct perfect camera doesn’t mean perfect shots.

Initially, you should only focus on skills and knowledge.

and whenever you are done with the skills part and you can afford a good camera, You should go and purchase one for yourself.

You need to have lots of lenses out with you

Using multiple lenses will not add wonderful results to your work until and unless you know how to use lenses.

and you are skilled enough to capture perfect images.

Lenses are expensive items that will add to your budget.

and using multiple lenses for photography doesn’t guarantee a perfect image.

You need to experiment with your lenses and discover on your own that what works best for the desired image.

Experiments can help you discover your likes and dislikes which can upgrade you to the next level and give you experience.

Photography is all about trying and finding errors, which can only be discovered by practice.

The camera never lies

Your camera is a manmade thing and it also has some restrictions and errors of its own.

The settings you use can determine how accurate a picture is.

If your ISO is too low, for example, your image will look darker than the scene in front of you.

When out taking pictures, remember that you can manipulate your camera to get the results you want.

Your lens also matters a lot for example, if you are using a wider lens or narrow one it will give effects you accordingly.

The camera can be used to alter and change the world into a whole different kind of thing using its effects, lens, and post-processing.

Only good light creates good photos.

There is nothing like good or bad lighting if it’s raining or cloudy.

and if someone is saying that it’s bad light then you should know what exactly he /she means, they most probably do not want to learn to shoot in all weather.

You might have seen pictures in dim light or low light, rainy, cloudy, non-sunny days.

but still, you will get numerous images that are quite gorgeous works of hardworking people who push themselves

Do not consider light as a condition of limitation because that is a complete myth of who does not love rain and how much overwhelming it is to shoot on rainy days.

I know it is difficult but the results are so mesmerizing and worth your effort.

Photography doesn’t have any limitations until you are ready to give in all your efforts and deduct all the stupid excuses.

Light will make your image boom but do not forget a non-proper light image can also give brilliant results.

Therefore, do not underestimate things before trying them.

Only shoot in manual mode

Using a manual mode does reflect how good of a photographer you make or your professional or skilled attitude.

Here’s the thing: you should learn how to shoot in manual mode.

It’s part of mastering the use of your gear and will dramatically improve your technical skills.

However, that doesn’t mean that you should glue your camera dial to this mode to avoid using any of the other settings.

Every scene and subject comes with a specific set of requirements, and sometimes that includes quick responses to rapidly changing conditions.

Don’t hesitate to switch to aperture priority or shutter priority if the situation requires it, the best mode should be picked according to each situation.

Photography isn’t a skill

Photography is an art that requires a lot of technique handling, skills, talent, and hard work.

and if you do not have even a single from the bucket then I am sorry to say photography is not your game.

You need to learn all the techniques to produce some best pieces of art and that takes time.

You cannot become a professional photographer in one night even if you don’t know the basics of photography.

Do not underestimate photography and try hard from the initial stage to excel at the basics.

and keep on learning, experimenting, and pushing yourself in hard times towards your goals.

You can fix everything by editing

Here’s the thing: you should definitely learn how to shoot in manual mode.

It’s part of mastering the use of your gear and will dramatically improve your technical skills.

However, that doesn’t mean that you should glue your camera dial to this mode to avoid using any of the other settings.

Important resources

Post-processing can fix everything.

Post-processing can alter a lot of things and add to the beauty of your beautiful image.

but it can not give an unrealistic and impossible makeover to your image.

If your image is too flawed there is no post-processing method that can cover it all.

Editing is over-ratted as most people think they can fix everything and anything from editing.

It is true editing helps you to make your image flawless but that does not mean that a bad image can be changed into a gorgeous art piece.

Editing is to fix small problems or glitches in your images and do not waste your time turning a pig into a horse.

A tripod is always needed for clean shots.

It is one of the most useful objects in photography.

This gadget can be your best friend or your worst enemy.

Using one will have a great impact on the sharpness of your photos.

and will let you explore new perspectives, shutter speeds, and even genres.

But relying too much on it might have a negative impact on your work.

Sometimes photographers tend to set their tripod before planning the shot, which significantly narrows down their possibilities.

In other cases, they simply leave the camera behind whenever they cannot carry the tripod with them, missing out on numerous photo opportunities on the way.

Don’t be scared to simply hand-hold your camera or use a wall or rock when you don’t have it with you.

Use a tripod when it is necessary do not try to use a tripod in every type of photography, because you will end up doing blunders.

Do not be habitual of a tripod but you should always know when you require and do not require a tripod.

Conclusion

Photography is a creative field and you need to throw away all the superstitions and myths about it.

and just learn it from your teacher or master all the skills, Remember only skills matter.

As you know it’s pretty easy these days to find some valid content online, you can search on youtube and learn anything from anywhere.

for example, if you’re bad at editing then learn from some professional editors, you can follow their tips and tricks and then bang.

just come up with something cool & shoot it and try to edit it the way you like.

this kind of process really helps you to find inner you, that creative person who wants to do something unique.

Here are some important resources, which might help you to learn something more…

keep practicing enough to reach your goal, but make sure you know your goal.

best of luck, have a good day.
