In the end, you’ll also find this article useful.

so if you want to learn some cool photography mistakes to avoid at the beginning of your photography career then you’re welcome.

now without talking more about these, let’s get started…

5 Most simple photography mistakes to avoid early for the newbie

as I mentioned, I’m going to share the top 5 and my early photography mistakes which are very commonly made by each and every newcomer photographer, here is my quick story on that…

so, when I bought my very first camera ( Canon 1300D ), I just read the manual book which came within the camera box.

and that’s how I learn photography ( that’s very funny, I know ), I just read every single photography mode and started capturing images and already feeling like a PRO.

because deep inside, I just want to capture images that give good bokeh using that kit lens.

but after some time, I realized that this is not a proper way if you want to be a professional photographer.

because when I started shooting during low light or some product photography by myself, then it’s very hard to get the image which I was thinking before the shoot.

the basic reason behind this failure is a lack of photography skills & techniques.

I don’t even know about how lights are important in photography, different types of lenses, which lens to use for portrait or for product photography.

I just know about ISO & shutter-speed, yeah that’s it.

like an exam, what happens if you got out of syllabus question? so you always need to be prepared for almost every single scenario.

no matter what situation out there, your main AIM must be to get the best possible shot.

and believe me, that’s a very difficult task if you don’t have some proper guidance and knowledge (yeah that’s why experience is important ).

in short manual guides didn’t work for me as I expected every.

because in real-life there’re way better scenarios, where you need to think on the spot to get the shot.

here are some basic photography mistakes to avoid for every single photographer out there…

these photography mistakes are faced by me, so if you think you have mastery over any of these photography mistakes then kindly skip that part.

1. Use the camera vertically

This one is the first mistake, I ever make when I bought a new camera for myself.

I always try to capture images in landscape mode, I never ever capture images vertically.

no matter, If I am capturing portraits, landscapes, or any other type of photography, I just use the camera horizontally.

but when I started capturing images vertically, I think this is the real thing that every beginner photographer should know and understand.

here are some examples which are captured by me vertically…

see this result, just amazing !!

the real thing is that, look at your subject from a different perspective.

there’re so many different ways to capture a single subject.

so once you know which perspective is good then you’ll definitely get better results.

2. A Good and expensive camera is not enough

Many of my readers are asking to buy some expensive cameras and gears to get better image quality and results.

but if you’re asking me then it’s not the real truth.

if you’re thinking that because of this kit lens, I’m not able to capture good shots then it’s your myth, that’s not the real truth.

let me give you a simple example, if you bought a new smartphone and if you don’t know every single feature of it then tell me, can you use it effortlessly?

the same rules apply with your camera, if you don’t have proper knowledge of it then you can’t get better results.

so if you want to capture images, first you need to remove the lens cap.

if you don’t know this little thing then expensive cameras are not for you, at least not for now.

but sometimes gear matters, like if you’re going out during night time for the shoot and as you know kit lens comes with an aperture between f/3.5 to f/22 something.

which is not an ideal aperture to shoot during nighttime, you’ll not get that much sharpness and image quality.

then you can bump up the ISO, which introduces grains in your images.

so for this situation, you can buy a cheap prime lens, to get the result.

some really cool stuff to learn and understand how to your DSLR camera and prime lens like a PRO.

3. Try to Master Everything

This is the second most important thing you need to do after buying a DSLR camera.

if you’re a student then I know you have a very much amount of empty time, so just use it properly.

use your camera everywhere, and try to capture images in every single scenario.

you can try some 30-day photography challenges, which are free and available on Pinterest or even on Instagram.

just open it and search it.

just make it clear in your mind, that you’ll archive no matter what happens, that’s the only motivation you need.

4. Learn Manual focus

I see lots of beginners don’t like to use manual focus because they can’t able to get the sharp result which they are looking for.

and yes our enemy Autofocus out there, which helps you to capture sharp photos just for you.

but that’s not a good practice if you love photography and really excited to capture beautiful photos then always use manual focus (not when you’re doing sports or wildlife photography 😀 ).

because once you master Manual focus you’ll get far better results than Autofocus.

also, Autofocus does not work every single time, you need to be accurate and steady to capture sharp images on the go.

here are some points which you need to know if you’re still using Autofocus over Manual focus.

if you don’t know how to use manual focus and how to master it, then don’t worry.

here is another article just for you, which tells you how to master manual focus in a week.

5. Always Backup

in our list of photography mistakes to avoid, this mistake mostly done by the lazy peoples.

if you think you’re a lazy person and also love to do photography, then this point saves lots of your time.

when I started my photography career, I am the laziest person in our family.

one day, I captured some good long exposure images for one photo competition, and before I copy those images to my mac, I just erased my whole memory card by mistake.

and that’s the very first worse mistake I ever made in my photography career.

so from that day, I decided to always take a backup of my images with another external hard drive.

as you know not every stupid photographer made this mistake which I shared, but sometimes many photographers get problems with their memory card.

so make sure you get the backup when needed, it may help you when you’re doing photoshoots for your clients.

at that time I own Canon 1300D, so I just transfer all my images to my external Hard drive every single day after returning from a shoot.

hope you guys got that always taking a backup is how much important for every single photographer out there in the market.

Final words

that’s my top 5 silly photography mistakes that you need to avoid, before getting famous with your photography skills.
