Tripods are a very important thing when you’re doing night photography or capturing some quick-moving objects in day/night time.

and as I know, many of our readers don’t own any tripod at all, because 90% of them are beginners.

so if you’re one of them then this article helps you a lot to capture moving objects with sharp clarity.

today we’re talking about image stabilization in photography, do you know the real meaning and how to use image stabilization in photography?

if you’re doing night photography or capturing any moving objects then using image stabilization you can capture sharp images.

yeah, it does not give you the result that you get using a tripod, but it helps you to capture more sharp images.

now a day, many camera lenses provide this option to capture images of good quality.

if you’re curious then you can check that option on your camera lenses, I use canon and you’ll get that option in most of all canon camera lenses.

you can use this option to capture images with an in-between range of shutter-speed, it helps you to remove some shaky moment.

without talking more about it, let’s get started…

What Is Image Stabilization In Photography & How To Use It

so here is the first and very important definition of image stabilization in Photography…

basically, if you’re reading this article from the beginning then now you must know something about Image stabilization.

but still here are some quick references to know the real essence of image stabilization.

if your hands are very shaky and you’re capturing images with a slower shutter speed, let’s assume you’re capturing at 1/40th of a second then using image stabilization you can still capture a sharp image.

here is a simple example to understand the real usage of image stabilizers.

Before/After

here is the simple example I created using my canon 1300D, 18-55MM lens…

to capture these images I used a shutter speed of 1/60, and here is the result…

on the left side, I capture images with the image stabilizer ON and on the other side with the image stabilizer OFF.

for better results, I created a shaky moment while capturing these two images…

as you can see the difference between these two images, you know the real use of an image stabilizer.

If you’re looking for a video of before/after then I found something interesting on youtube, check that out…

But the thing is that image stabilization helps you to handle your camera movement which means if you own a tripod then just use it, and turn OFF the image stabilizer.

but if you’re capturing some quick-moving objects and you need control over your camera’s shaking movement then the image stabilizer is just for you.

it’s a very easy and important feature for you to capture any moving object with good image quality.

just turn it ON.

Image stabilizer works well with a wide range of lenses…

but, remember one thing…

if you’re capturing images where you don’t need this feature then just turn it OFF.

otherwise, it’ll consume some bit more power, and you can’t able to capture more images, especially if you’re traveling.

also if you’re capturing images with a shutter speed of more than 1/300th second then you know your muscles don’t shake that much per second.

In this kind of scenario, this feature is helpless, so just turn it off.

so, always use an Image stabilizer, if you need it otherwise capture it the same way you’re capturing before.

that’s all from my side, hope you guys like this article and learn something new today…

thank you, have a good day 🙂
