which Canon lens to bought after 18-55 mm lens?

canon lens to bought after 18-55mm

as you know, these days when you bought any new DSLR camera like canon 1300D or even a mirrorless camera then you’ll get a kit lens.

if you spend more then you’ll get one prime (so-called ) + one zoom lens.

like when I bought my very first camera I got an 18-55mm kit lens, and as you know many entry-level photographers like to buy a DSLR camera (because it’s cheap and easy to use I guess ).

I never saw any newbie just go to the store and get a mirrorless camera.

so that’s my main motto write an article on, which lens to buy after 18-55mm kit lens.

so once you got a new camera which includes this 18-55 kit lens, and after a year you’ll realize that 18-55mm lens is not what you’re looking for, to capture some outstanding photos.

there are many reasons to upgrade your camera gear…

like with the kit lens you’ll get an aperture like f/3.5 something, which is not capable to capture images in low light.

so if you love to catch bokeh in your images then you need to upgrade your gears.

and for me, that was very complicated, because I never know which lens to buy without any experience with that particular lens.

I think for you that way also, it is very confusing to buy any camera lens which you haven’t used.

like if you’re investing some good money then you need to first check the product before you purchase.

here is one simple example…

what if you love to do street photography and someone gives your a telephoto lens !! that’s very awkward !! right ??

but sometimes it’s good to go out with that lens to capture some creative stuff.

so, if you own a kit lens like 18-55mm and want to upgrade your lens kit then this article is just for you.

there are so many beginner photographers out there who just bought a big zoom lens for fun and after some time interval, they just don’t know why they bought that lens.

and in the end, they sell it for very little money.

so, if you don’t want to choose the wrong lens and want to save your money then just follow some cool steps which I am mentioning in this article.

which definitely gives you a proper way to choose the real lens for yourself, to capture better images with your camera, and gain more photography skills.

now without talking more about it, let’s get started…

which Canon lens to bought after 18-55 mm lens?

I created this article for canon lens, but if you own any other camera company then you can read this article because it gives you a proper explanation to choose the next lens to buy after your kit lens 18-55mm.

before you start this article, let me ask you some simple questions.

Q.why every DSLR camera comes with an 18-55mm lens kit?

if you don’t know then here is the answer.

because 18-55mm lens is one kind of prime lens, and the kit lens is the only lens that is easy to capture images in every single condition.

this kind of lens works almost everywhere.

you can do zoom-in to get a more compressed shot and even zoom out to get a wide shot.

Images that you can’t capture with your 18-55mm kit lens

Do you know what types of images you can’t capture with your kit lens (a good reason to upgrade your gears 😀 )

but honestly, you need to ask yourself if you’re upgrading your lens then there is a maximum number of chances that you’re not able to capture something with your kit lens.

just ask yourself, if there is no reason and you just want to upgrade your lens then we also have a solution for that later in this article.

but this question really needs an answer, no matter how much time it takes.

like this one, with 18-55mm, the focal length is short, and also aperture range is between f/3.5 to f/5.6, so you can’t able to do some cool wildlife photography.

for this you need some cool zoom lens, this one is the proper reason for you to upgrade your lens kit with one zoom lens which contains some good focal length.

same for portrait or street photography, you need that compression and sharpness when you perform portrait photography.

so that’s another good reason to upgrade your camera lens.

here is another trick to find the future lens for yourself.

look at your Instagram feed, see what kind of images you really like to capture.

it’s short-range or long-range (or even mid-range)?

for short-range you can use prime lens, and for long-range, you can use zoom and telephoto lens, quite easy right !!

Lenses are like apps

I read an article at DPS, and the author says that camera lenses are like apps, and I love that point.

that means like your smartphone, which contains so many different applications like Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram.

these applications are made for you to make your life great by doing some cool stuff ( not that much great ).

the same rule applies to your camera.

just assume that your DSLR camera is your smartphone and the applications are some cool lenses, which you can use in every different condition.

so that totally depends on the conditions, if you want to chat then you can use WhatsApp, for social media you’ve Facebook or Instagram and so many other options you’ve.

like this if you’re doing some street photography then you can choose a prime lens, for wildlife photography, you have to choose a zoom or telephoto lens.

but there is one big difference, WhatsApp and Facebook are totally free, but your lenses are not, so just be careful before you pick any lens.

What do you love to capture?

this is the question, which you need to ask yourself, before buying the next camera lens.

if you love to capture portraits on streets with sharp focusing and good blurry background then a 50mm lens is the best option for you ( you can even choose 35mm for good portraits).

the range between 24-70mm is good for portrait photography ( I also love 85mm ).

but if you’re an animal or sports lover ( in short like to capture long-range ), then you will likely want a wide-angle / zoom lens.

focal length within 100-300MM is the most excellent option.

list of best canon lenses between these cool ranges

As I said earlier, I created this article especially for canon lens, so if you own any other DSLR, then you can just search for the focal range given in this article.

for high-grade portrait & close-range photography

  • 50mm f/1.8

To capture better long-distance photography, here are some canon lenses…

  • 75-300mm f/4-5.6
  • 28-135mm f/3.6-5.6
  • 24-105mm f/4

I just want to upgrade my lens

for no reason, if you just want to upgrade your lens kit, then 50-100mm is the best range for you, just go for it.

you can even search for Tamron lens, Sigma ( good for sharpness ), these company’s lenses are not that much expensive and also contains great build quality.

if you spend more money on a zoom lens then it’ll give you more features like image stabilization, weather sealing, obviously max apertures, and glass elements.

so before buying a zoom lens, remember this advice.

these are the tips that definitely help you to choose a better canon lens ( or other camera lenses) and also give you a hint to buy a new lens after your 18-55mm kit lens.

that’s all from my side, hoop you guys like all these tips.

thank you, have a good day 🙂
